Restoring Jewellery

This signet wedding ring had lasted through over 60 years of marriage. The original engraving had worn off to the point that it was illegible and very hard to know what it said. The shank was also worn and bent out of shape matching the aged hands it never left for such a long long time. This was also a very personal project something my partner in Sydney had inherited and he had no idea I was goint to restore it.

Re-shanking and Engraving

I spent a lot of time working on this one, under the microscope, discovering the old worn out engraving. The initial’s SB could be eventually made out but getting the original font style was a little more challenging. Due to the age of the ring it required a complete re-shank. For those that are unfamiliar with the term, the shank is commonly referred to as a band. A re-shank involves cutting and replacing the band of the ring. The shoulder and above remain intact retaining the original engraving on the inside. By the time this restoration was complete the ring looked like new as it would have all those years ago.
