Jewellery Stories
A back story gems and recent projects
Pink Diamonds & Argyle Diamonds
Pink diamonds are fancy coloured diamonds with a pinkish to reddish hue. Although most coloured gems achieve colour variations by chemical impurities or trace minerals, this is not the case for pink diamonds.
Pearls
Through royalty, film and fashion pearls have had a rich history. One of June’s three birthstones has long been associated with wisdom, love and affection. Over the past few years pearls have also made a comeback as they shed their stigma of being prim, proper and conventional. Nowadays, along with vintage pieces we are seeing pearls used more and more new modern pieces and custom jewellery designs.
Ceylon Sapphires
The beautiful blue sapphire is one of the most famous and recognisable gemstones. The word sapphire comes from the greek word ‘sappheiros’ which means ‘blue stone’. The Ceylon Blue Sapphire is special and along with its vivid colour it can hold its natural shape without treatments.
Tourmaline
The most colourful of all gemstones is tourmaline which comes in nearly every imaginable colour. It is no surprise that over the course of history, Tourmaline has often been mistaken for other gems like rubies or emeralds.
Designing a Custom Handmade Engagement Ring
Although we have some beautiful pieces in store the majority of our work is creating custom handmade jewellery for our clients. Those perfect, one-of-a-kind pieces of jewellery that are unique to you and help mark a special moment in your lives. A large number of the custom jewellery we create is handmade engagement rings. Investing in an engagement ring that you cannot see can be a little bit daunting. We try to make the process as simple and easy as possible. In the following article we will explain the steps and give you an understanding of how we create you the perfect custom handmade engagement ring.
Concept to Jewellery Creation
Old, out of fashion jewellery you thought you would wear forever but didn’t. Gifts from people who aren’t as close as they once were. Sentimental family heirlooms that just aren’t your style. Whatever the reason, we all have it, or we did until we created something totally new from remodelled jewellery. This local Kiama client had a collection of 18ct Jewellery she no longer wore and an idea of ring creation she would cherish.
Restoration of Signet Ring
This signet wedding ring had lasted through over 60 years of marriage. The original engraving had worn off to the point that it was illegible and very hard to know what it said. The shank was also worn and bent out of shape matching the aged hands it never left for such a long long time. This was also a very personal project something my partner in Sydney had inherited and he had no idea I was goint to restore it.
Ceylon Sapphire Trilogy Ring
The first ever promotion held by Sara Handmade Jewellery Kiama was for a $500 voucher once our page likes hit 500. When we finally reached our goal we were probably more excited than our followers to draw a winner. The winner was a beautiful lady from the Southern Highlands and when we met we hit it off straight away. I spoke to her and her mother about a Ceylon Sapphire that her grandmother had purchased overseas many years ago. It had always been a dream to get this gemstone set properly into a piece of jewellery worthy of such a sentimental stone.
