Heirloom Ceylon Sapphire in Trilogy Ring Setting

Heirloom Ceylon Sapphire and a Competition Winner

The first ever promotion held by Sara Handmade Jewellery Kiama was for a $500 voucher once our page likes hit 500. When we finally reached our goal we were probably more excited than our followers to draw a winner. The winner was a beautiful lady from the Southern Highlands and when we met we hit it off straight away. I spoke to her and her mother about a Ceylon Sapphire that her grandmother had purchased overseas many years ago. It had always been a dream to get this gemstone set properly into a piece of jewellery worthy of such a sentimental stone.

Sourcing Diamonds

The design had to be classic and pay tribute to the days long passed, without looking too old fashioned. We went for a 3 stone trilogy ring where the Ceylon stunner is set between two smaller (but not small) diamonds we would source. Emerald cut diamonds were the chosen shape and working to a budget we thought we would be able to source two 0.45ct diamonds. Working within our budget, we reached out to suppliers and fortunately found a pair of 0.50ct GIA certified diamonds with great clarity in the chosen shape. With so many types of gems, sizes and shapes gemstone sourcing can be a challenging part of our work. This was a really good win and we were very happy to be able to say we’d exceeded our own expectations.

Precious Metals

Not being a wearer of yellow or rose gold we were asked to make the new setting in 18ct white gold. When you order a custom handmade piece of jewellery it’s unique, it’s totally yours and can me made just as you like. We were able to surprise this client by upgrading her setting to platinum and she was absolutely delighted. Designing your own piece is an experience that stays in your memory almost as long as the piece of jewellery. The heirloom creations live on and can be passed down from generation to generation. We hope you love your piece.
