Planning an Engagement?
Our jewellery story on designing a custom engagement ring helps explains the process
Is it more expensive to design your own engagement ring?
There is a preconception that people expect to pay more for a custom designed ring. In truth it makes no difference whether it is store bought or custom made. If your custom piece costs a little more it is generally because it takes a little bit longer to make. To see the other advantages of a custom made piece check out our page on custom makes.
Choosing a Diamond
Choosing a diamond can be scary, for many of us its one of the biggest single purchase we will make aside from a house or car. When we source diamonds for our clients, we only select diamonds that are certified by the GIA (The Gemmological Institute of America). The GIA have the best reputation for grading diamonds and evaluate stones on cut, colour, clarity, carat weight and more. It’s simple, a GIA certified stone commands a higher price and delivers you peace of mind. All of our diamonds are laser inscribed in the girdle giving you confidence knowing your diamond matches your certificate.
When sourcing a diamond (or other gemstone) we carefully analyse what is available in the marketplace according to our client’s budget and specifications. Any inclusions in your diamond should be white and not dark or black. All diamonds will look new at the beginning, but, as they are worn you want to ensure you avoid it looking peppery.
The perfect mix between cut and colour is very important. A well faceted diamond will shine far brighter than one that isn’t. When choosing a diamond ask questions and make sure you are happy with the answers. If your jeweller can’t give you reasons for selecting a particular stone this should raise a few flags. If you have any questions that you are having trouble getting answers to please don’t hesitate to give us a call.
