Repairing & Restoring Jewellery

Jewellery restoration and repair uses services like polishing, replacing gems, repairing worn or damaged claws as well as others to have tired pieces of jewellery looking pristine. With regular use, even the most well-made, high-quality piece of jewellery will wear over time.

Having your old or damaged jewellery professionally restored will leave your jewellery looking like new.

Damaged jewellery can also be redesigned, repurposing the gold and gemst it into a new bespoke ring, pendant bangle or earrings.

FAQs on Jewellery Restoration & Repair

Diaond Icon

  • Jewellery restoration uses different techniques to restore the condition of a piece of jewellery to what it was like when it was made. More than a repair, jewellery restoration often involves replacing parts and gemstones, the addition precious metals like gold while maintaining the integrity of the original piece.

Jewellery remodelling is another service that uses old jewellery, precious metals and gemstones to create a new piece of jewellery.

  • Depending on the damage a lapidarist can use techniques to fix gemstones. Gemstones can be buffed or polished to remove scratches from daily wear. A chipped gem can often be re-faceted although it will affect the size of your gemstone.

If your gemstone is not able to be repaired, you can arrange to have a gemstone sourced to match the size, colour and specifications of the original.

  • The two easiest ways you can clean your jewellery at home are:

    • Mix a drop of dishwashing liquid into a bowl of warm water. Use a soft tooth brush to gently brush your jewellery with the mixture. Once finish, rinse your jewellery in cold water and let it dry on a paper towel.

    • Fill a bowl with boiled water and stir in one teaspoon of baking soda. Wrap your jewellery in a piece of aluminium foil and place it into the mixture. Leave the jewellery to sit in the mixture for about 10 minutes. Rinse and then dry your jewellery with soft cloth. Pearls, emerald and opal jewellery are not suitable to be cleaned by this method.
