The Engagement Ring Is Too Important to Settle

An engagement ring is worn every day for the rest of a life. It will be photographed thousands of times, admired by friends and strangers, and one day passed to the next generation. Given all of this, it seems extraordinary that so many people settle for something chosen from a glass cabinet — a design made for nobody in particular, produced in volume, and available in a dozen other stores.

Bespoke is the alternative. And Sara's experience — 20 years of creating engagement rings in Kiama for clients across the NSW South Coast, Sydney, and Canberra — is that the process is less complicated and more enjoyable than most couples expect. You don't need a technical brief. You need a starting point.

Every bespoke engagement ring starts with a complimentary consultation. No commitment required — just a conversation about what you're looking for.

Sara's Bespoke Engagement Ring Process

1

Initial Consultation

A free conversation — in Sara's Kiama studio or via video call — where you share your vision, inspiration, and budget. You don't need a complete design idea. A photo you love, a style direction, or even a description of your partner's personality is enough to start.

2

Design & Quote

Sara produces a design sketch — and for more complex pieces, a 3D render — along with a transparent, itemised cost estimate. Nothing is made until you're completely happy with both the design and the price. No surprises.

3

Gemstone & Material Selection

Sara sources your stone — a GIA-certified diamond, or an ethically sourced coloured gem — presenting you with a curated selection matched to your preferences. Metal choice (yellow, white, rose gold, or platinum) is confirmed at this stage.

4

Handcrafted in Kiama

Every ring is shaped, soldered, and set by Sara's hands in her Kiama studio. This includes intricate details — sculpted galleries, halo settings, bead-set shoulders — that mass production cannot replicate. The process takes 4–8 weeks from design approval.

5

Collection & Certification

The finished ring is independently valued and comes with its gemstone certificate and a valuation for insurance purposes. Collect in-studio or receive via fully insured delivery. Complimentary resizing is available after the proposal.

What Makes Sara's Studio Different

In an industry where "bespoke" often means choosing from a menu of pre-designed settings, Sara's studio represents the genuine article. Every ring begins as a blank sheet — or a sketch, or a conversation — and ends as an object that did not exist before you walked through the door. Sara is a qualified gemmologist with formal training in stone selection and assessment, meaning the stone inside your ring is chosen with the same expertise as the setting around it.

Sara's studio is in Kiama, on the NSW South Coast — but she serves clients across the country. Coloured stone engagement rings are one of her specialities, alongside traditional diamond solitaires and vintage-inspired designs. Whatever your vision, Sara will build it — and if you don't have a vision yet, she'll help you find one.

FAQ: Bespoke Engagement Rings

Most bespoke engagement rings take 4–8 weeks from design approval. Starting as early as possible gives Sara the most time to source the perfect stone and explore design options. Tighter deadlines can sometimes be accommodated — contact the studio to discuss.
Not necessarily. Bespoke commissions are tailored to your budget, and without retail overheads, every dollar goes to what actually matters — stone quality and craftsmanship. Many clients find they get significantly more for their money through a bespoke commission than through a chain jeweller.
Yes — Sara always provides design sketches before production begins. For more complex designs, a 3D render is available. Nothing is made until you're completely happy with the design. Design revisions at the sketch stage are included in the process.
It happens rarely — because a well-briefed bespoke ring is designed around the specific person who will wear it. If adjustments are needed after the proposal, Sara can often make modifications. Complimentary resizing is included if the size isn't quite right.
