What We Create

Statement Rings for Every Style

Whether you want a ring that turns heads across a room or one that quietly catches the light, we design to your personality — not to a catalogue.

Dress Rings

A dress ring sits somewhere between understated and showstopping — elevated enough to feel special, polished enough to wear every day. Sara designs dress rings that complement your personal style rather than compete with it. The centrepiece stone — chosen for its colour, character and cut — does the talking, set in a gold mounting that suits your lifestyle as much as your taste.

These are rings designed for the real world: for work dinners, weekends, and the days you simply want to feel put-together without trying too hard.

Cocktail & Statement Rings

These are the pieces that stop conversations. Large, bold and unapologetically dramatic — a cocktail ring is jewellery that announces itself. Sara's statement rings typically feature a prominent coloured gemstone as the hero, often surrounded by diamonds or complementary stones, set in a sculptural mounting that reflects the personality of the wearer.

Cocktail rings have been a symbol of self-expression since the 1920s, and nothing has changed: if you love colour and you love jewellery, this is the ring for you.

Coloured Gemstone Feature Rings

As coloured gemstone specialists, we have access to an exceptional range of stones that retail jewellers simply cannot source — large tourmalines, vivid aquamarines, deep rubellites, rare spinels, and magnificent sapphires in teal, parti, and classic blue. A statement ring is the perfect vehicle for a stone that truly deserves to be seen.

Sara will walk you through her current collection of exceptional stones, help you understand what makes each one special, and work with you to design a mounting that honours the gem at its centre.

Design Your Own from Scratch

You don't need a clear idea to start. Many clients come in knowing only that they want something colourful, or something bold, or something that feels nothing like what they've seen in shops. That is exactly where a consultation begins — Sara helps you discover what excites you, then designs something entirely around that.

The result is a ring that could not exist anywhere else in the world, because it was made specifically for you.

The Bespoke Design Process

1

Consultation

A free, relaxed conversation about the colours, styles and occasions that inspire you. You don't need to arrive with a complete picture — just enthusiasm and an open mind.

2

Gemstone Selection

This is often the most exciting part. Sara shows you stones from her curated collection — tourmalines, sapphires, aquamarines, rubellites and more — and helps you find the one that speaks to you. If you have something specific in mind, she will source it.

3

Design & 3D Preview

Sara designs a mounting tailored to your stone and your style, creating a sketch or photorealistic 3D rendering for your approval. Every detail — the profile, the setting style, the metal — is refined until it feels exactly right.

4

Handcrafting

Your ring is handcrafted with meticulous attention to detail. Statement rings carry a large stone and are worn regularly — the structural integrity of the mounting is taken just as seriously as the aesthetics.

5

Delivery

Receive your finished ring beautifully presented at a personal handover, complete with a care guide so your statement piece stays in perfect condition for years to come.

Cocktail ring history — bold jewellery by Sara Handmade Jewellery A Little History

The Story Behind the Cocktail Ring

The cocktail ring has its roots in 1920s America — an era of prohibition, speakeasies, and sweeping social change. As women fought for equality and the right to vote, bold fashion became a form of expression. The cocktail ring, worn at underground parties and glamorous illicit gatherings, was jewellery with intention: oversized, colourful, impossible to ignore.

A century on, the spirit is unchanged. A statement ring is still jewellery worn with intention — to express personality, to celebrate a milestone, to mark the moment when you decided life was too short for small accessories.

At Sara Handmade Jewellery, we think every day is reason enough to wear something extraordinary.

The Difference

Why Choose Sara Handmade Jewellery

A statement ring is only as good as the stone at its centre and the hands that set it. Here is what sets ours apart.

Gemstones You Won't Find Elsewhere

As a qualified gemmologist and coloured stone specialist, Sara sources exceptional tourmalines, rubellites, aquamarines, spinels and sapphires in sizes and qualities that retail stores simply cannot access. The stone in your ring will be one of a kind.

01

Designed to Be Worn — Every Day

We build statement rings that look extraordinary and wear reliably. The mounting is engineered to secure a large stone through regular use — so your ring can come with you everywhere, not live in a jewellery box.

02

3D Design Preview Before Any Metal Is Touched

You will see a photorealistic rendering of your ring before Sara crafts it — so you can adjust proportions, modify the setting style, and arrive at the exact design you want with complete confidence.

Gems That Demand Attention

A statement ring lives or dies by its stone. The good news is that coloured gemstones are available in an extraordinary range of sizes, shapes and hues — and because they are typically less expensive per carat than diamonds, you can have a large, impressive stone without a large, impressive price tag.

Sara's current collection includes stones from around the world. Some of our most popular choices for statement and dress rings:

Tourmaline Rubellite Aquamarine Morganite Spinel Australian Sapphire Ceylon Sapphire Tanzanite Emerald Opal

Semi-precious gemstones are especially well suited to statement rings — their availability in larger sizes, spectacular colour range, and excellent value make them the natural choice when scale and impact matter most.

Looking After Your Ring

Caring for Your Statement Ring

Cleaning at Home
Warm water, a small amount of dishwashing liquid, and a soft toothbrush. Rinse in cold water and dry on a paper towel. Simple, safe, and effective for most stones.
Annual Check-up
We recommend a professional inspection once a year for regularly worn rings — every two years for occasional wear. Minor wear caught early prevents stone loss later. Clients who bring their Sara pieces in receive a complimentary clean.
Safe Storage
Store your ring separately from other jewellery — its own pouch or box prevents scratching and knocking. A statement ring with a large stone is best stored face-up where possible.
When to Remove It
Take your ring off before gardening, heavy exercise, or any rough physical activity. Statement rings are built for life — but not for digging in the garden.
Common Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

A cocktail ring is a large, bold, typically colourful piece of statement jewellery. Usually oversized and featuring a prominent gemstone, they are designed to draw attention and make an impression. The name comes from their origins at glamorous 1920s cocktail parties in the United States, where bold fashion was a mark of independence and style.
Almost any coloured gemstone works beautifully in a statement ring — tourmaline, aquamarine, morganite, rubellite, spinel, sapphire, emerald and opal are all popular choices. Semi-precious gems are especially well suited: available in larger sizes, an exceptional colour range, and offering outstanding value. As a qualified gemmologist, Sara will help you find the stone that excites you most.
Absolutely — this is exactly what we do. Every ring we create is bespoke. You don't need to arrive with a finished idea; Sara will guide you through stones, styles, metals and proportions until the design feels right. You'll see a 3D rendering for approval before any metalwork begins.
Absolutely — there are no rules. Many of our clients commission a bold coloured stone ring as an engagement ring. Sara will advise on stone and setting choices that ensure the ring is durable enough for daily wear alongside its beauty as a statement piece.
Warm water, a small amount of dishwashing liquid, and a soft toothbrush is all you need. Rinse in cold water and leave to dry on a paper towel. Store it separately from other jewellery, remove it before rough physical activity, and bring it in for a professional inspection once a year — we include a complimentary clean for every piece we made.
Most bespoke dress and statement rings take 4 to 8 weeks from consultation to delivery, depending on the complexity of the design and whether a stone needs to be sourced specially. We will give you a clear timeline during your consultation and keep you updated throughout the process.
